River Work

A fixture in New England’s cultural consciousness, the Charles River has served as artistic influence, catalyst of industry, victim of toxic environmental effects, and example of ameliorative efforts to restore a damaged ecosystem. Extending 80 miles through 23 towns and cities in Massachusetts to Boston Harbor, this investigation offers a glimpse of the changing landscape along its length. I look for a lyrical quality that expresses not only the geography of its complex history, but also the imaginative space of this region.
